Weyrs of Pern
You settle onto the sun-warmed stone of the ledge with the Weyr opening wide below you, its walls dropping away into distance and sky. Wind moves across the rock in steady breaths, carrying the faint scents of firestone dust, leather, smoke, and living dragons. Somewhere far off, wings beat once against the air before fading into stillness. For a little while, there is nothing to do but feel the height, the warmth beneath you, and the immense quiet of Pern stretching beyond the rim.
