The Bad Beginning
The rain is pouring down as the wind rattles the house. You hunker down, trying to stay warm and ignore the sounds of mice squeaking under the floorboards. Your new guardian's house isn't much, but it's all you have. You try to ignore the ominous tattoo of an eye on his ankle and how much he talks about the enormous fortune your parents left you after they died in a fire, but you can't help suspecting that something sinister is at play.
