Rooftop Scene
This was made for the rooftop scene in Phantom of the Opera, specifically All I Ask of You through the first part of All I Ask of You Reprise, before the Phantom comes in. The setting for this scene is night in France on the rooftop of the Opera Populaire. The mood for this scene is light hearted and caring. This can be found in the song lyrics and the interaction between the actors/characters. For example, in All I Ask of You, Raoul sings multiple lines about caring for and protecting Christine. One of them being "I'm here, nothing can harm you, my words will warm and calm you." In the reprise we see Christine showing more of the lighthearted part. "Order your fine horses, be with them at the door." With the actors' portrayals often Christine and Raoul are very giddy at this point in the song and giggling at some points. All of this leads me to think the theme would be something along the line of love conquers all. In this song, Christine and Raoul have just witnessed a death, had a small argument, and still made up and confessed their love to each other. Their love in this scene overcame their thoughts about the Phantom and what could happen because they have each other.
