November Book Project
In The Hate, U give there is a scene where there was a protest for a black kid named Khalil and was shot by a white officer and in the story, the white officer went on trial and got off with no punishment and the people of garden heights began to get sad and angry and decided to protest for the rights of Khalil and the police officer. The protest was led by a girl named Starr who was the best friend of Khalil and was there the night he was shot by the white officer. The angry mob and the banging metal all explained what happened during the book and what I was feeling, the guns and destruction all explained what people were using during the time of the protest and what measure they would take to get what they thought the white police officer deserved. The heartbeat and the attack were when Starr led the protest and did not know what to say to the crowd that wanted vengeance against the government and their decision of the police officer, so she was scared that she could not control the angry mob and speak up for her rights and Khalil's rights. So the sounds represent the night that everyone was going crazy and started to riot and get what is right for their culture and friends and family.
