Cozy Night At Home With Luke
Luke was never the type to stay in one spot for long, so the afternoon rain showers in late April almost drove him mad. He had tried it all - books, organization, and evening yoga with me never seemed to calm his twiddling thumbs. But, to my surprise, I heard him from the kitchen. His old guitar, out of tune and covered in dust, playing its gentle melody as I cleaned up the remainder of our late lunch on a Tuesday afternoon. The kids were at school, and him and I always enjoyed our peaceful lunches together.
I wanted to step away from the kitchen sink and take a peek at the man who I had fallen in love with holding the instrument that had taken his attention for so many years. I remember how much I loved the way his eyes seemed to be possessed by the strings at his fingertips. I want to wrap my arms around his neck, press soft kisses to the side of his neck as his lips curl into a gentle grin. Luke Hemmings, once the lead of the hottest band since Nirvana, likes his tea lightly sweetened and his hair played with as he lays on my stomach while I read the latest post from my favorite wellness blogger. I read this ritually, as if I would ever be brave enough to join a pole-dancing class.
But I don't distract him. Instead, I close my eyes and focus to his gentle music so that I'll never have to wonder what it sounded like when he decides to put the instrument away again.
